A former employee manipulated emissions measurements – the case has now been reported to the police

The waste management company Special Waste System has for several years reported manipulated values for the company's emissions

At least 27 times, emissions measurements have been manipulated at the incineration plant in Nørre Aslev, operated by Special Waste System, a subsidiary of the waste management company Gemidan.

This is according to Finans, based on a disclosure from the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police.

– We are fully taking responsibility. Our task now is to figure out how this happened so that it can’t happen again, says Lauge Dehn, Chairman of the Board at Gemidan, to Finans.

The employee under investigation was employed from 2014 to 2023 and, according to Gemidan, reported incorrect emissions values for purified air related to the incineration of hazardous waste. The manipulation may have led to environmental requirements not being met.

“We have asked our lawyers to investigate the matter while also conducting an internal investigation, and we will cooperate with the police to ensure that the case is fully resolved,” Gemidan said in a press release.

Special Waste System is located in North Falster and specializes in receiving, handling, and destroying hazardous waste through incineration. The surplus heat from the production process is used for district heating in the local area around Nørre Alslev.
