The agreement on 9 GW of new Danish offshore wind, reached on Tuesday evening, ensures a secure future for Energy Island Bornholm which, according to the Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities, will contribute to increasing Denmark's energy security from 2030. The future of Energy Island was previously in limbo in May when leaked documents from the negotiations revealed that the island which was originally expected to be profitable, would actually incur losses, with a likely bill of 31.5 billion DKK to the state over the first 20 years of its lifespan.
