Process Engineer (Seville, Spain or Aalborg, Denmark)
Are you a Process/Mechanical/Thermal/Energy Engineer who wants to shape how real energy plants get built? At Aalborg CSP we’re looking for a new colleague to work on Heat and Mass Balance (HMB) modelling, and technical support for thermal systems across the full project lifecycle, from R&D, concept development and feasibility studies through to detailed engineering and consultancy on project execution. Working in close coordination with our project engineering and R&D teams across Spain and Denmark, our new teammate will bring solid technical basis that early-stage project decisions depend on. If that might be you, keep reading.
Work that is reshaping how the world makes and stores heat
You will be working on projects that are reshaping how the world makes and stores heat: repurposing coal plant assets into renewable energy storage, integrating high-temperature storage with nuclear and SMR projects, replacing fossil boilers with electrified dispatchable steam for oil and gas, cutting fossil dependency in industrial process heat, and converting surplus renewable power into long-duration thermal storage.
Among your main tasks
You can look forward to a varied role with room for both technical depth and broad collaboration with skilled colleagues and partners at home and abroad.
- Developing Heat and Mass Balances (HMB) for large-scale thermal systems based on molten salt and thermal oil, typically used for steam generation
- Performing thermal process calculations: pressure drop, flow and temperature profiles, heat exchanger sizing and thermal dimensioning
- Carrying out general thermal process analyses
- Developing and maintaining calculation tools in MATLAB/Simulink
- Ensuring thorough documentation of calculations, methodologies and assumptions
- Preparing, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring assigned engineering/study tasks, reporting regularly to the Project/Study Manager
- Reviewing engineering documents (specifications, procedures, deliverables) and proposing corrective actions
- Supporting R&D / EU-funded projects (RIA, IA) with thermal process inputs and engineering deliverables, including coordination with multicultural teams
- Interacting with clients and other disciplines to interpret requirements and translate them into technical specifications
- Monitoring compliance with applicable codes, QA/QC policies and performance standards
A process engineer grounded in thermal systems
We are looking for someone who combines real depth in thermal/process engineering with a structured, independent way of working. Ideally you bring most of the following:
- Engineering degree (energy, process, mechanical engineering or similar)
- Solid experience in thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and analysis of complex thermal systems
- Knowledge of integrated energy systems, concentrated solar power/solar thermal, thermal energy storage and thermodynamic cycles (Rankine, Brayton, etc.)
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, preferably including development of calculation tools
- Familiarity with R&D / EU projects (RIA, IA) is a plus
- Familiarity with engineering development phases such as Front-End-Loading (FEL 0-3) is a plus.
- Structured way of working, with strong documentation skills
- Comfortable working independently on technically complex tasks, and coordinating with multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
- Task management, decision-making and time management skills
- English level: C1. Danish or Spanish is a plus.
Join a multi-cultural specialist team with short decision paths
We engineer thermal integration for the energy transition, supporting energy and industrial sectors with electrification, thermal energy storage, steam generation, and the integration of high-temperature systems. Aalborg CSP is an independent thermal engineering and consulting firm with close to four decades of experience, taking projects from concept to operating plant across five continents.
We are a small team of specialists based in Aalborg (Denmark) and Seville (Spain) who care about changing the way energy is produced today. The hierarchy is flat, the team is multicultural, and our official language is English. You will have visible ownership of your work, report to the project manager and collaborate directly with senior engineers, R&D and clients.
We support flexible or hybrid working. Relocation assistance is not provided for this role.
Interested?
Send your application to Miguel Herrador Moreno, Vice President of R&D to mhm@aalborgcsp.com. We review applications on an ongoing basis and start conversations as strong candidates come in, so there is no need to wait for a deadline. Please expect a slightly slower response over the summer holiday period. We look forward to hearing from you!
